Stanton not discussing Miami payroll purge
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton is not yet willing to talk about the team's latest payroll purge, but he will discuss another aspect of the offseason -- his vacation to Europe.
Following a dismal year for the Marlins, Stanton blew off steam by taking an October trip overseas that included a visit with Ozzie Guillen in Madrid.
Shortly after their get-together, Guillen was fired as manager. Then in November, the Marlins reshuffled their roster by trading five players to Toronto.
Stanton tweeted that he was angry about the deal, which left him as one of the team's few established players. He said he won't discuss his status in Miami with the South Florida media until Friday, when the Marlins hold their first full-squad workout.
