I've turned into my father.
Too often, I find myself pining for the past and bemoaning the here and now -- especially the kids of today.
So it was a pleasant surprise to hear what Lions quarterback Matt Stafford, still a kid at 24, had to say Wednesday night after winning the ESPY award for "Best Comeback Athlete."
Stafford thanked his teammates, coaches and the Lions organization, then gave props to his adopted city.
“I want to say how happy and thankful I am to share this with the city of Detroit,” he said. “It’s on a comeback of it’s own, doing great things. It’s been through a lot, the city has been through a lot, and we’re just one of teams trying to make them happy and proud, give them something to cheer for. This is for my teammates and the city of Detroit.”
Finally, a kid who gets it.
