Sri Lanka recovers from 9-2 to reach 216-5 vs. Australia

GALLE, Sri Lanka (AP) Fast bowler Mitchell Starc dismissed Kusal Mendis for 86 runs to claim his 100th test wicket as Sri Lanka reached 216-5 at tea on the opening day of the second cricket test against Australia on Thursday.
Mendis and Kusal Perera shared 108 runs for the third wicket as Sri Lanka recovered from 9-2.
Perera was dismissed after lunch when he was caught at slip by Australia captain Steve Smith for 49. The partnership between Mendis and Perera lasted 160 deliveries.

Mendis added 67 with captain Angelo Mathews before being caught behind by Peter Nevill.
Mendis faced 137 balls and hit 10 boundaries and two sixes. Mathews was unbeaten on 49.
Starc had 3-44 at the break.
