Southern Mississippi holds off Tulsa 62-59

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Dwayne Davis and Jerrold Brooks scored 11 points each, and Jonathan Mills grabbed 11 rebounds as Southern Mississippi won its ninth game in a row, beating Tulsa 62-59 on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles (17-4, 6-0 Conference USA) have won 11 of their last 12. They owned a 44-29 rebounding edge and outscored the Golden Hurricane 24-10 in the paint.

Southern Miss led for the final 12 minutes, but Tulsa pulled within 58-57 on Pat Swilling Jr.'s 3-pointer with 1:48 left. Neil Watson made a free throw with 19 seconds left for the Golden Eagles, and Jonathan Mills made three free throws in the final 8 seconds. Tulsa got off one last shot but missed before the buzzer.

Swilling led Tulsa (12-9, 4-3) with 14 points. James Woodard had 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals, Kauri Black scored 12 and Scottie Haralson added 11 points for the Golden Hurricane.
