South Africa stretches lead to 356 over England in 4th test

CENTURION, South Africa (AP) Hashim Amla was approaching his second century of the game as South Africa stretched its lead to 356 over England in the fourth test on Monday.

Amla controlled South Africa's second innings with his 96 not out after an early England surge on the fourth day.

Seeking a consolation win, South Africa went to tea on 223-4 with Amla combining for a 117-run stand with Temba Bavuma (63 not out).

James Anderson had 3-33, which saw him pass Richard Hadlee and go seventh in the all-time list with 433 test wickets. Anderson's haul included Stephen Cook and then AB de Villiers for a duck in the space of three balls in the morning session.

England has already clinched the series with a 2-0 lead heading into the last test.
