Given the events of the past three years, we’re hesitant to even report this, lest we raise Coyotes fans’ hopes unnecessarily.

But here goes. Sources with knowledge of the situation have said that a deal with prospective buyer Greg Jamison could be announced soon, perhaps as early as this week.

Those sources say Jamison now has the investors and financial backing to complete a sale of the team he has been trying to close since last year. Any deal would be subject to league review and approval.

With the City of Glendale thus far quashing two ballot measures that could have derailed the sale, the final ducks could be in a row to complete this long-anticipated deal.

That assumes The Arizona Court of Appeals doesn’t alter a lower court’s ruling regarding a ballot measure that sought to reverse a city sales tax hike. It also assumes the soon-to-expire collective bargaining agreement won’t play a role in this process.

And it assumes that some unforeseen factor won’t waylay the process. Are we sounding skeptical here? Call it educated skepticism. We’ll see.

In related news Wednesday, Shane Doan’s agent, Terry Bross, dispelled rampant rumors that the Coyotes captain has ruled out a return to Phoenix and has moved on to other options. While Bross acknowledged that Doan has a shorter list of teams in which he is interested in the event a Coyotes deal cannot be reached, Bross said Doan remains “very much interested” in returning to the Coyotes.
