INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- The Cavaliers have agreed to a trade that will send small forward Alonzo Gee to the Charlotte Hornets for center Brendan Haywood and rookie forward Dwight Powell, NBA sources said early Friday morning.

Gee, 27, spent four seasons with the Cavs after signing with the team in December 2010. He started for the majority of the 2012-13 season, and compiled averages of 8.2 points and 3.4 rebounds during his Cavs career.

Haywood, 34, was actually drafted 20th overall by the Cavs back in 2001, but never played for the team. Instead, the 7-footer from North Carolina was traded to the Orlando Magic for Michael Doleac on draft night.

He spent nine seasons with the Washington Wizards, three with the Dallas Mavericks and one with the Hornets/Bobcats, compiling career average of 6.9 points and 6.1 rebounds. He missed all of last season with a stress fracture in his right foot.

Haywood was cut by the Mavericks following the 2012-13 season via the league's amnesty provision. He is owed $2 million for the upcoming season. Gee's contract, meanwhile, is not guaranteed.

Powell is a 6-11 power forward out of Stanford. Some mock drafts projected him to be a late first-round selection.

The Cavs and Hornets cannot discuss nor complete the trade until July 1, per league rules.
