NEW YORK -- A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press that free agent right-hander Hiroki Kuroda has agreed to a $10 million, one-year contract with the New York Yankees.

The person says the deal is pending the 36-year-old former Los Angeles Dodgers starter passing a physical. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because there has not yet been an announcement.

Kuroda is the second starter added to the Yankees' roster Friday night after what has been a quiet offseason. New York acquired hard-throwing youngster Michael Pineda from Seattle for catcher Jesus Montero.

Kuroda was 13-16 with a 3.07 ERA last season for the Dodgers.
