Source confirms Lohse to sign with Brewers
Kyle Lohse finally has a new baseball home.
Lohse has agreed to a three-year, $33 million contract with the Milwaukee Brewers and will undergo a physical today, a major league source confirmed to FOXSports.com. The deal also includes roughly $1 million in performance bonuses over the three years.
Lohse, 16-3 with a 2.86 ERA with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012, was the last major free agent left on the market. It’s not clear if the right-hander will be ready to join the Brewers’ rotation for the beginning of the regular season, although he’s been throwing simulated games in recent weeks. The Brewers open their season Monday, April 1, at home against the Colorado Rockies.
The Brewers’ need for Lohse was magnified by the recent struggles of starting pitcher Mark Rogers.
No announcement from the team is expected until after Lohse undergoes his physical. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Lohse is scheduled to do so at the Brewers’ spring training complex at 10 a.m. PT.
CBSSports.com and Yahoo! Sports were first to report news of the agreement.
