Sooners' Tapper named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 4:11 p.m. ET

Defensive end Charles Tapper is playing the best football of his career.

Tapper was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after OU's win over Kansas and then against Iowa State Tapper had two sacks and four tackles. He has five sacks in the past two games.

"I'm just flying off the ball," Tapper said to The Oklahoman. "Mistakes are going to happen. The first couple of games I was worried about just being in my game, trying to stay in my game, making sure that I was playing like a robot almost. And Coach (Diron) Reynolds said: 'You can't be a robot. You've got to be a playmaker. You've got to go out there and make things happen. You're a senior captain.'"
