Sooners getting off to quick starts

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:54 p.m. ET

Oklahoma got off to a slow start this season.

It hasn't been the case the past month, though.

In games against Akron, Tennessee and Tulsa, the Sooners struggled to score early. However, in the last month, OU has scored at least 14 points in the first quarter, including 21 against Kansas and Iowa State.

"There was a big emphasis after the Texas game of knowing the importance in college football of having to start fast," offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley said to The Tulsa World. "We proved early in the season we could win and get going with not doing that.

"I think it's been an emphasis and the kids are getting better at what we do. We're playing better all the time. That's probably why you've seen it."
