HOOVER, Ala. -- To open up the 2013 SEC Media Days, the most powerful man in college football opened his brag bag, discussing the conference's latest BCS title and its Heisman  Trophy winner.

But SEC Commissioner Mike Slive didn't avoid the elephant in the room, talking bout the conference's recent off-the-field issues, with both current and former players. Though he did so without naming anyone by name.

Ahem, Aaron Hernandez and the recent Vanderbilt situation.

"We cannot ignore off-the-field situations with current and previous athletes," Slive said. While the negative actions of few garner headlines, the vast majority conduct themselves appropriately."

Hernandez, who played for the Gators from 2007-09 and who was charged with first-degree murder, along with five other weapons charges in the death of Odin Lloyd.

Then there's the Commodores scandal, where four players were dismissed form the team last month in connection with a sex crime investigation. Monday, the university released the names of the players involved, Brandon Banks, Cory Batey, Jaborian McKenzie and Brandon Vanderburg.
