Silver Medallion won the $200,000 El Camino Real Derby by 11/4 lengths on Saturday at Golden Gate Fields in an early 3-year-old prep for the Kentucky Derby.

Ridden by Russell Baze, thoroughbred racing's all-time winningest jockey, Silver Medallion ran 1 1-8 miles in 1:50.45 and paid $15, $4.80 and $12. The colt is trained by Steve Asmussen.

Jakesam returned $7.40 and $13, while Positive Response was another three-quarters of a length back in third and paid $7.40 to show.

Comma to the Top, seeking his sixth straight victory, finished fourth in the six-horse field under Corey Nakatani.

Comma to the Top broke alertly, but bore out to the middle of the track in the early going. He moved up in the stretch, but drifted out again and appeared to brush Silver Medallion before fading in the final furlong.
