NEW YORK (AP) Shagaf has drawn the inside No. 1 post in a field of eight entered for the $1 million Wood Memorial, New York's major prep race before the Kentucky Derby.
The unbeaten 3-year-old colt will be ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., the nation's second-leading rider in earnings.
Odds will be posted later Wednesday.
From the rail out, the field is Shagaf, Adventist, Trojan Nation, Tale of S'avall, Flexibility, Matt King Coal, Dalmore and Outwork.
Chad Brown trains likely favorite Shagaf and Flexibility.
The 1 1/8-mile Wood at Aqueduct on Saturday carries 170 Derby qualifying points, with 100 to the winner, 40 for second, 20 for third and 10 for fourth. The Derby is limited to 20 starters. If more are entered, the field is determined by points. Shagaf has 50 points from last month's Gotham win.
