EA Sports' NBA Live series took a break after the failed reboot of the series in 2015, but it's back in 2017 to try to dethrone the NBA 2K series. The first gameplay trailer, which reveals a single-player story mode that appears similar to FIFA 17's "The Journey," dropped just ahead of E3.

Madden NFL 18 is also receiving a story mode titled "Longshot,"making it clear that a narrative career mode is the new normal for sports games.
