Second annual Community Heroes Week to take place June 19-23
ATLANTA – Following a successful debut of Community Heroes Week in 2016, the Atlanta Braves Foundation and FOX Sports South announced today that the community initiative will return during the 2017 season. Community Heroes Week is a weeklong celebration of inspiring individuals who have made a difference in their community. The second annual Community Heroes Week will take place from June 19-23, when the Braves host the San Francisco Giants and the Milwaukee Brewers. Nominations are now being accepted and can be submitted on www.Braves.com/inspire.
The Braves are seeking nominations for individuals who have made a lasting and positive impact on their community in Braves Country. A panel of Braves and FOX Sports South staff will select five individuals to be named the 2017 Community Heroes Week Honorees. Nominations will be accepted from Wednesday, March 15 – Friday, April 28.
"We were overwhelmed by the amount of nominations and support that poured in from Braves Country during our inaugural Community Heroes Week," said Atlanta Braves Director of Community Affairs Ericka Newsome. "Bringing these stories to light and treating each Honoree to a special day is a way for us to thank and celebrate the individuals who have made their community a better place. We are extremely excited to continue the program this year and welcome five new Community Heroes Week Honorees."
On each day of Community Heroes Week, the Braves will recognize a different Honoree by surprising them with a day of VIP treatment. From the surprise to meeting Braves players and FOX Sports South on-air talent to a game at SunTrust Park that evening, every Honoree's day will be filled with unforgettable elements. Each Honoree's story will also be shared during the game and in the FOX Sports South broadcast, in an effort to celebrate the individual and bring awareness to their cause or organization.
"Continuing our partnership with the Braves for Community Heroes Week was an easy decision, as we too want to pay tribute to this year's Honorees and amplify their stories in the biggest way possible," said Rolanda Gaines, Director of Marketing and Communications for FOX Sports South.
