SEC Tourney Roundup: Top seeds Florida, Ole Miss stumble
Kentucky jumped on Florida's Logan Shore early, tagging him for four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings as the ninth-seeded Wildcats upset the No. 1 seed 4-2 on Wednesday in the SEC baseball tournament in Hoover, Alabama.
Wildcats third baseman Max Kuhn hit a two-run home run in the top of the third inning, finishing 2 for 5, while starting pitcher Kyle Cody went 5 1/3, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
Kentucky advances to face Mississippi State, a winner over fourth-seeded South Carolina, while the Gamecocks will now take on the Gators, airing Thursday at 2 p.m. on SportSouth.
LSU 11, Vanderbilt 1
The Tigers took the drama out of a rematch of last year's title game with a 11-1 run-rule victory over the Commodores.
Jared Poche turned in a complete game win, striking out three as he improved to 9-3 on the season.
Mark Laird led the LSU offense, going 3 for 4 with two RBI and four runs scored, while Alex Bregman drove in five, including his sixth homer.
The Tigers will now take on Arkansas, while the Commodores meet Ole Miss in an elimination game at 10:30 a.m. Thursday on SportSouth.
Arkansas 2, Ole Miss 1
Clark Eagan and Andrew Benintendi had two hits each as six of the Razorbacks' starters got at least one hit in dumping second-seeded Ole Miss 2-1.
Arkansas starter Chris Oliver moved to 8-4 as he gave up four hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings. He was followed by Jacob Stone, who registered his second save.
The Razorbacks advance to face third-seeded LSU on Thursday.
Mississippi State 12, South Carolina 0
Already up 4-0 going into the seventh, the Bulldogs added eight runs in that inning for a 12-0 run-rule win over the fourth-seeded Gamecocks.
Mississippi State racked up 14 hits, including Brett Pirtle's three-run home run in that eighth-run seventh, while Seth Heck added a two-RBI single.
