Offenses took to the air on Saturday, with quarterbacks such as Georgia's Aaron Murray and Alabama's AJ McCarron posting record-setting performances.
Mississippi State's Tyler Russell also had a strong performance (17-of-21 passing for 191 yards and three touchdowns), but couldn't break onto this week's SEC Honor Roll:
High Fives
Aaron Murray, Georgia: Murray was more accurate than Hawkeye when Georgia needed him most. He missed only eight of his 38 passing attempts for a career-high 427 yards and four touchdowns in a 29-24 win over Kentucky. Murray passed David Greene on the school's career touchdown pass list and enters this week's game against Florida with 75 career touchdown throws.
Tavarres King, Georgia: Murray's favorite target Saturday was King, who caught a career-high nine passes for 188 yards and two scores. King caught a 66-yard touchdown pass and a 1-yard score, but the yardage total fell short of his school record 205 yards receiving, set in the Outback Bowl last season.
Kyle Christy, Florida: He already led the SEC in punting and added to it as all seven of his punts traveled more than 50 yards in Saturday's win over South Carolina. He had a career-long 62-yard punt on his way to averaging a school-record 54.3 yards. One punt was fumbled by South Carolina returner Ace Sanders and one was downed at the Gamecocks' 5-yard line.
AJ McCarron, Alabama: Like Murray, McCarron was deadly accurate in shooting down Tennessee. He was 17-of-22 passing for a career-high 306 yards. He also tied his career-high with four touchdown passes. McCarron has thrown 16 touchdowns without an interception in 2012. In fact, he hasn't thrown an interception in his past 239 attempts, dating back to last year.
Kevin Minter, LSU: The leader of LSU's defense, Minter helped hold Texas A&M to 28 points below its season scoring average in the Tigers' 24-19 victory. He had 12 tackles, a sack, an interception, broke up a pass and twice pressured Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, who threw three interceptions. Minter was selected the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Defensive Player of the Week.
Disappointment of the Week
South Carolina: The Gamecocks were beat up entering their showdown in The Swamp, but were expected to put up more of an effort than they showed in a 44-11 loss. South Carolina had four turnovers, rushed for just 36 yards and quarterbacks Connor Shaw and Dylan Thompson completed only 17 of 40 attempts for 155 yards, and were sacked four times.
Player of the Week
Zac Stacy, Vanderbilt: Sure, Stacy fumbled on his final carry, but that was after he became Vanderbilt's top career rusher with his 169 yards on 27 carries in the Commodores' 17-13 win over Auburn. His 2-yard TD run gave Vanderbilt a 17-10 third-quarter lead and he finished the game with 2,670 career yards.
Coach of the Week
Will Muschamp, Florida: Florida fans have forgotten all about last year, when the Gators went 0-for-October on their way to a 7-6 record in Muschamp's first season. He had Florida well prepared for South Carolina and has rebuilt the program in 20 games. Muschamp has to do it again this week, when the Gators (7-0) face Georgia on Saturday.
