Kurt Busch led both practice sessions on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway.
HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY — Kurt Busch was the fastest Sprint Cup driver on the track Saturday, topping the speed charts in both practice rounds for tomorrow’s Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway. In the morning session, Busch’s No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet SS ran 200.955 mph, making him the only driver to crack the 200 mph barrier. Polesitter Carl Edwards was second in the morning practice ahead of five-time champion Jimmie Johnson.
During the final Happy Hour round, when the track was warmer and therefore slower, Busch was best at 197.468 mph. Behind Busch were Kasey Kahne, five-time Michigan winner Mark Martin, Johnson and Edwards.
ROLL FOR THE POLE — Austin Dillon won the pole for this afternoon’s Alliance Truck Parts 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Michigan International Speedway. Dillon took the top starting spot with a lap of 191.882 miles per hour in his Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.
What was especially impressive was that the pole was Dillon’s fourth consecutive No. 1 starting spot. He also claimed the pole at Charlotte, Dover and Iowa.
Dillon’s teammate Paul Menard will start second, after qualifying at 190.668 mph. Brian Scott qualified third, followed by Trevor Bayne, Alex Bowman and Brad Sweet.
