Sansevere: Rubio is the perfect point guard

BY foxsports • January 19, 2012

You know what's baffling about Ricky Rubio?

It's this ...

How is it that he wasn't a superstar putting up monster numbers for his team in Spain last season?

He didn't score a lot of points, didn't have a lot of assists.

He was injured for part of the season, but there's got to be more to it than that.

Here's one possible explanation: Rubio was too good. Yep, too good. So good that his teammates couldn't catch the passes he threw to them. You've got to wonder if many of those teammates walked around after games with welts on their faces and bodies from no-look passes they just couldn't handle.

He needed to get somewhere where the players had talent that rivaled his. He needed to get to the NBA.

Now that he is with the Timberwolves, Rubio is able to show everyone just how good he is. He is so good that he's making the players around him better, and that's exactly what you want from a point guard.

In a recent poll of NBA general managers, Rubio was ranked the third-best passer in the league. And that's based on a little more than a dozen games in the NBA.
Now that's impressive.

The Timberwolves don't have a winning record, but Rubio and Kevin Love and Derrick Williams and Luke Ridnour and a few others have made the Wolves a highly entertaining bunch to watch.

And that's a start. That's more than you could have said about them for the past, well, for many years.

The Wolves will get better because Ricky Rubio will get better.
