Sansevere: Lynx offer relief for Minnesota fans

BY foxsports • April 13, 2012

The Twins rallied for wins in back-to-back games against the Angels. It was fun to watch their bats come alive. It also was a reminder that the Twins are likely to fall behind in many games this season.

Minnesota already has lost Scott Baker for the season with an elbow issue, and what's left of the starting rotation isn't exactly filled with aces.

It could be another difficult season for the Twins. There isn't much in the way of championships or even playoff runs for Minnesota sports fans to look forward to in the months and seasons ahead.

The NHL playoffs are underway without the Wild for the fourth year in a row.

The Timberwolves are limping to the NBA season's finish line.

People will be excited about a few of the Vikings' draft picks, but that excitement will subside once the season begins and reality sets in that they still are a few years and a few players away from leapfrogging the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North.

So, what is there out there that offers hope and contentment?

Well, there is one Minnesota team that isn't likely to lose many games and is likely to contend for a second straight championship.

You want something to look forward to? Look to the Lynx.

They are the defending WNBA champions, and they will have back some of the best women's basketball players on the planet. They will give you Seimone Augustus and Maya Moore and Lindsay Whalen as well as the aforementioned hope and contentment.

Yeah, it's the WNBA and the WNBA is not as much of a mainstream league as the NFL, NBA, NHL or Major League Baseball.

But the Lynx will do something the Wolves and Wild haven't done and the Twins and Vikings won't be doing any time soon, and that's win and contend for a championship.
