Sagebrush Queen wins Desert Stormer by a length

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Long-shot Sagebrush Queen shot through a large opening along the rail with a quarter-mile to go and went on to win the $75,000 Desert Stormer Stakes by a length at Santa Anita on Sunday.

Ridden by Edwin Maldonado, Sagebrush Queen ran six furlongs in 1:09.75 and paid $34.40, $10.40 and $3.20 as a 16-1 shot in her first stakes race.

Clearly Confused returned $5.80 and $3, while My Sweet Addiction was another 4 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $2.20 to show as the 4-5 favorite. She drifted out badly turning for home.

The victory, worth $60,780, increased Sagebrush Queen's career earnings to $189,770, with four wins in nine starts.
