SAfrica newcomer Phehlukwayo 4-44, Australia makes 294-9
CENTURION, South Africa (AP) New South Africa quick bowler Andile Phehlukwayo took 4-44 as Australia made 294-9 in the opening one-day international on Friday.
Phehlukwayo's first wickets in international cricket, in just his second ODI, were crucial in reining in a fast-starting Australia, which eventually finished with a below-par score on a very good batting pitch at SuperSport Park.
David Warner made a rapid 40 and fellow opener Aaron Finch 33, but top-ranked Australia was maybe too attacking too early and slipped to 192-6 with David Miller's diving run out of Matthew Wade.
George Bailey top-scored with 74 and his partnership of 79 for the seventh wicket with John Hastings, who made a career best 51, saved Australia.
Dale Steyn took 2-65, including Bailey's wicket, to keep the pressure on at the end of the Australian innings.
