Royce White's career with the Rockets might never have gotten the chance to take off after he was traded to Philadelphia after spending just one rocky season with the team, but that doesn't mean the 2012 first round pick can't have a lasting mark on the city of Houston despite his departure.
Wednesday, White announced Anxious Mind's Inc., a non-profit organization which he started while attending college at Iowa State, will be partnering with Bee Busy Wellness Center to create the Royce White Institute of Mental Health.
The 17,000-square foot facility, which will offer free mental healthcare along with dental and primary care, is scheduled to open on the southwest side of Houston in January 2014.
"When I met Royce White a couple of years ago, I knew we would do something like this," Bee Busy CEO Normal Mitchell told the Houston Chronicle. "I think it will be a great thing for this community."
White's struggles with anxiety are well documented from his one season in Houston after the young point guard and the Rockets found themselves in a dispute over agreements he wanted in place related to his disorder while playing in the NBA Development League.
