For those hoping Kris Medlen might be able to help solve the Royals' starting rotation issues, the wait continues.

The Royals recalled Medlen from his minor league injury rehab assignment Wednesday -- but not to insert him in their rotation. He suffered a right shoulder strain in his rehab start with Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday night and is being brought back to Kansas City for examination. The right-hander will be re-evaluated later Wednesday.

Medlen was 1-3 with a 7.77 ERA in six games (all starts) for the Royals this season before being placed on the disabled list May 12 with a right rotator cuff inflammation. He is 0-2 with a 5.50 ERA in five minor league starts with Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
