Royals pick up RHP Frasor to bolster bullpen
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals, frustrated by the lack of effectiveness from their middle-inning relievers, continued to seek veteran help.
On Wednesday, the Royals acquired right-hander Jason Frasor from the Texas Rangers in exchange for minor-league right-hander Spencer Patton.
The Royals designated for assignment utility player Jimmy Paredes to make room on the 40-man roster for Frasor, who will join the team Friday in Boston.
The Royals subsequently optioned right-hander Louis Coleman back to Triple-A Omaha.
Frasor, 36, is 1-1 with a 3.34 ERA in 38 outings this season. The Royals also recently acquired left-hander Scott Downs as they continue to try to shore up the lower end of the bullpen.
Patton, 26, was the Royals' 24th-round pick in 2011.
