The Kansas City Royals announced their 25-man roster, highlighted by the presence of longtime minor league slugger Frank Schwindel, on Thursday in advance of Opening Day against the White Sox.

The Royals selected Schwindel from Triple-A Omaha, giving him his first stint on the major league roster.

To get down to the 25-man active roster limit, the Royals placed left-handers Danny Duffy (left shoulder impingement syndrome) and Brian Flynn (left UCL sprain) on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to March 25; placed right-hander Trevor Oaks (right hip surgery) on the 60-day IL, and reassigned right-handers Homer Bailey and Michael Ynoa, catcher Nick Dini, infielders Humberto Arteaga and Cheslor Cuthbert and infielder/outfielder Erick Mejia to the minor leagues.

Appearing on their first Opening Day roster along with Schwindel are pitchers Scott Barlow, Chris Ellis, Jorge López, Kevin McCarthy and Kyle Zimmer and infielders Hunter Dozier and Ryan O’Hearn.

The Royals host the White Sox at 3 p.m. Thursday.
