Rouyn-Noranda beats Brandon 5-3 in Memorial Cup

RED DEER, Alberta (AP) Timo Meier scored twice and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 5-3 on Saturday night in the Memorial Cup opener for both teams.

Anthony-John Greer, Gabriel Fontaine and Philippe Myers also scored, Francis Perron had three assists, and Chase Marchand made 38 saves for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champion Huskies.

Reid Duke, Tyler Coulter and John Quenneville scored for the Western Hockey League champion Wheat Kings.

The Huskies will continue round-robin play Sunday against the host Red Deer Rebels. Brandon will return to action Monday against the Ontario Hockey League champion London Knights. London beat Red Deer 6-2 on Friday night in the tournament opener.
