Ron Roenicke, entire staff to return for Brewers in 2014

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke and his entire coaching staff will return for the 2014 season, general manager Doug Melvin announced Saturday.

Roenicke, who recently won his 250th game as Milwaukee's manager, will be back to lead the Brewers for a fourth season.

"While this season has not been what we had hoped, I believe the continuity with Ron Roenicke's coaching staff is important," Melvin said. "With the club having 12 rookies and the arrival of a new group of Brewer farmhands, our coaches have worked hard to blend our young players' development with our experienced players as we work toward getting back to the postseason."

Ed Sedar will return as third base coach for the fourth season, his eighth on the major-league coaching staff. First base coach Garth Iorg, pitching coach Rick Kranitz and bench coach Jerry Narron will be back for their fourth year on Roenicke's staff, while hitting coach Johnny Narron returns for his third season and bullpen coach Lee Tunnell is back for his second year.

A few minor tweaks were made, as outfield coach John Shelby will no longer be in the dugout during games. Shelby was initially hired as Milwaukee's eye in the sky for games and may return to that role in 2014. With expanded instant replay coming for next season, Shelby could help with manager challenges from another location. Shelby will continue to coach the outfielders as well as assisting hitting coach Johnny Narron.

In addition to the seven returning coaches, Triple-A Nashville manager Mike Guerrero will join the major-league staff as a coach. He will assist Iorg with the infielders and have other responsibilities.

Guerrero has been in the organization since 1996 when he became the manager of the club's rookie team in the Dominican Republic. The 45-year-old has managed at the rookie level, Class-A advanced, Double-A and Triple-A for the Brewers. He's spent the past two seasons as the skipper in Nashville.

During his playing days, Guerrero spent nine seasons (1987-93) as a minor-league infielder with the Brewers and Royals.

"Mike Guerrero is being rewarded for the loyalty and hard work that he has provided the Brewers' minor-league organization for many years," Melvin said. "With the majority of his baseball career spent with the Brewers, Mike has touched and assisted in the development of a large number of past and present players."
