GREEN BAY, Wis. -- For 34 years, Lombardi-era Packers linebacker Dave Robinson was eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And, for 34 years, Robinson didn't make it as a finalist.
This weekend, however, Robinson is a finalist for the first time, named as one of the two senior finalists for the Class of 2013. This is a special category for players whose careers ended at least 25 years ago. Robinson will need to receive 80 percent of Saturday's vote, which is the same requirement as every regular candidate.
If Robinson does make it, he'll join 10 of his former Packers teammates from the 1960s and early 1970s in the Pro Football Hall of Fame: Ray Nitschke, Herb Adderley, Willie Davis, Forrest Gregg, Paul Hornung, Henry Jordan, Jim Ringo, Bart Starr, Jim Taylor and Willie Wood.
During Robinson's career, which spanned from 1963-74, he played his first 10 seasons with the Packers and final two with the Washington Redskins. He was named All-NFL for three consecutive seasons and voted into three Pro Bowls.
Robinson was with the Packers for three of their NFL championships, as well as their Super Bowl I and II victories. He played in 155 total games and was named to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1960s.
