Breathe easy, Stars fans. Brad Richards is still in Dallas and could be pulling on a Stars sweater again as soon as Friday.

The team opted not to trade the 30-year-old center prior to Monday's deadline, with Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk saying "I'm about winning right now."

"I believe in this group," he declared. "I'm about winning right now and
making the playoffs. That's very much an important thing for this
franchise, and Brad Richards gives us our best chance of doing that."

Nieuwendyk said it would have taken an irresistible offer for Dallas to move its best player.

"In my mind, I wasn't going to move him unless somebody knocked our socks off with something we couldn't refuse," Nieuwendyk told The Dallas Morning News' Mike Heika. "We've said all along that we want to sign Brad, and we still feel that way. We want to sign Brad Richards to be a Dallas Star for a long period of time.

"He likes it here, he likes these guys, and he's going to play hard for us. Our position has not changed, and I don't think his has either. he
