Revamped Seminoles locker room to feature statues of FSU greats
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State will renovate the football team's locker room, coaches' offices and meeting rooms this summer, the school announced Wednesday.
The locker room will feature wall graphics as well as statues of former Seminole greats who have had their numbers retired. One idea under consideration, said senior associate athletics director Monk Bonasorte, is to have not just a name with a jersey number above a locker but also a list of all the previous players that wore that same number.
"The focal point is going to be statues of all the players who jerseys are currently retired," director of football operations Mark Robinson said. "One of the beliefs behind that is the ancestry and our current players will be sharing this locker room with all the great players who came through here. So when you see some of these retired jerseys like Deion Sanders, Charlie Ward, Chris Weinke, their jersey will actually stay lit the whole time.
"The number will always be lit, and that's the belief behind the fact that you're sharing a locker with all the great players who have played here at Florida State."
The football offices will also receive a new look, and an emphasis will be placed on large photos and graphics that honor the former Seminoles that are playing or have played in the NFL.
Work is expected to begin after Florida State's spring football game, which will be held April 12 at 3 p.m., and should be complete before the 2014 season begins.
