Request for Trout autograph leads to arrest
Sunday night’s game between the Angels and Texas Rangers in Angel Stadium was delayed briefly in the top of the eighth inning when a fan came onto the field and stopped for a brief chat with Angels left fielder Mike Trout.
“He said it was his 18th birthday and asked me for an autograph,” said Trout, the rookie phenom who had two hits and two walks and scored a run in the Angels’ 7-4 victory. “I said, ‘Not right now, after the game.’ ”
Security personnel responded quickly and the fan, who was not identified, was escorted off the field without incident and booked at the Anaheim Police Department on suspicion of misdemeanor trespassing.
“He had his hand in his pocket — that worried me the most,” said Trout, who leads the American League with a .357 average and 70 runs in just 74 games. “But he was cool.”
