EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings apparently have finally reeled in former Green Bay Packers receiver Tori Gurley.
Gurley was reportedly signed to Minnesota's practice squad on Saturday and he tweeted the news of joining the Vikings’ side of the NFC North rivalry. The 6-foot-4 receiver was among Green Bay’s final cuts on Friday.
"I would like to Thank the Packers & the Packer Fans for a great time in GB but now it's time to get the ball rolling with the #Vikings!!!" Gurley wrote on his Twitter page (@TGurley81). "Proud to be the newest member of the Minnesota Vikings!!!"
Gurley, 24, rejected a contract offer and spot on the active 53-man roster from Minnesota last season to stay on the Packers’ practice squad. The Vikings wanted to give Gurley his first chance on an NFL active roster after being decimated at the wide receiver. Gurley stayed with Green Bay and spent the rest of the season on the practice squad.
Undrafted in 2011 out of South Carolina, Gurley came back to training camp with the Packers this season. He had three catches for 75 yards while playing in three preseason games for Green Bay.
Minnesota has a lot of uncertainty at the position behind playmaking receiver Percy Harvin. The Vikings signed Jerome Simpson in the offseason, but he’s suspended for the first three games. Veteran Michael Jenkins will likely start in Simpson’s absence, but his speed appears sapped after knee surgery. After that, young receivers Devin Aromashodu, Stephen Burton and Jarius Wright make up the rest of the receiving corps for second-year quarterback Christian Ponder.
