GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Inside linebacker A.J. Hawk has agreed to take a pay cut and restructure his contract with the Packers, according to multiple reports.
Hawk had three years left on a five-year contract he signed with Green Bay in March 2011. He was scheduled to make more than $5 million next season. The terms of his newly restructured deal are unclear, but it will be for less money.
"Always wanted to remain a Packer and I'm excited to have the details worked out," Hawk posted on Twitter. "Now back to work bringing another title home to Green Bay!"
Hawk, the fifth overall pick in the 2006 draft, has played his entire NFL career with the Packers. Though he hasn't lived up to his draft status, Hawk led Green Bay in tackles last season. He also had three sacks in the 2012.
Hawk, 29, has been a starter for all seven years of his career and has missed only two games with injuries.
Though the Packers could alter their plans based on what happens in April's draft, Hawk will likely open next season as a starting inside linebacker next to Desmond Bishop in defensive coordinator Dom Capers' 3-4 scheme.
