Reports: Jockey Razo dies at age 46
Longtime jockey Eusebio "Eddie" Razo Jr. was killed in a garage fire at his Chicago-area home, family members said, according to reports.
Firefighters in Long Grove, Ill., responded to a garage fire Tuesday at Razo's home and discovered a body inside. Authorities did not identify the deceased, but Razo's brother-in-law, Gerald Filipowski, told the Chicago Tribune that it was the jockey.
Razo's former jockey agent, Lindy McDaniel, spoke with the family and confirmed Razo's death to the Daily Racing Form.
Razo, 46, rode 2,692 winners in his career, according to the Racing Form. He rode briefly early this year at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas but had been inactive recently because of a wrist injury. Prominent on the Illinois circuit and at Oaklawn Park, Razo won several meet riding titles.
He father, Eusebio Razo Sr., was a trainer at Chicago-area racetracks.
The fire is under investigation. Several neighbors reported hearing an explosion before the fire, according to Chicago media reports.
