TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona All-American running back Ka’Deem Carey has had a protection order issued against him, according to reports Sunday.
The protection order was served on Jan. 2 and was related to an incident that allegedly occurred on Dec. 23, Tucson television station KVOA reported. The Associated Press corroborated the report via a source.
Details of the incident have not been made public, but according to the KVOA report, Carey filed for an injunction against Dana Rambow, reportedly his ex-girlfriend's mother, on Dec. 26. A hearing on the matter reportedly is scheduled for Jan. 7.
The story prompted Arizona football coach Rich Rodriguez and athletic director Greg Byrne to issue statements on Carey.
"I've spoken with Ka'Deem and am aware of the case,” Rodriguez said. “We take these matters very seriously and will support the authorities however we can. Once more specific information is available, we will act accordingly.”
Byrne said the school would have no further comment but is aware of the situation, adding that the matter “is now a matter for the local authorities and we will fully cooperate and assist them as needed.”
The alleged incident came just a week after Arizona defeated Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl.
Carey, a sophomore standout from Tucson's Canyon Del Oro High, finished as the nation's leading rusher with 1,929 yards to go along with a school-record 23 touchdowns. He became Arizona’s first consensus All-American since Antoine Cason in 2007 and the 11th player in school history to earn the prestigious honor.
