University of Arizona All-America running back Ka'Deem Carey will face charges in court this week in relation to a Dec. 23 domestic incident, according to multiple reports, .
The Arizona Daily Star, citing Tucson Police, reported that Carey, 20, will face charges for domestic violence after an incident involving his pregnant ex-girlfriend. The 23-year-old woman requested an order of protection against Carey after the incident, and it was issued Dec. 31.
The petition for an order of protection described that the altercation began when Carey entered a room at a Tucson residence in search of a lighter to smoke an illegal substance, according to The Star. TucsonCitizen.com reported the full allegations in the victim's complaint:
"(Carey) came into room to obtain a lighter to use illegal substance in home. I asked him multiple times to leave the room and he refused, pushed/shoved way in and knocked me to the floor. Threatening my pregnancy and myself. Slammed my fingers in the door when trying to prohibit smoking illegal substance in the home."
Police on the scene questioned Carey and the victim and told the Star both "showed injuries consistent with some type of physical altercation." Carey is scheduled to face the charges in court Thursday.
Carey, a sophomore from Tucson, was a consensus All-American after leading the nation in rushing this season with 1,929 yards. He also recorded a school-record 23 touchdowns and is considered a potential Heisman Trophy contender for next season.
"I’ve spoken with Ka’Deem and am aware of the case," Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez said in a statement issued Sunday. "We take these matters very seriously and will support the authorities however we can. Once more specific information is available, we will act accordingly."
