Brandon Phillips in pinstripes?

CBS Sports baseball insider Jon Heyman reports the New York Yankees expressed interest in acquiring the Reds' Gold Glove second baseman, who has been the subject of trade rumors since the end of the regular season.

Writes Heyman:

Phillips is said to be available in the right trade, but word is, the initial price is way too steep. Of course, that's the way the Yankees look at Cano's $300 million asking price, as well.

Playing through a variety of injuries, the 32-year-old Phillips drove in a career-high 103 runs last season but batted only .261, matching the lowest mark of his eight-year career with the Reds. His .706 OPS was the lowest of his Reds tenure.

Reds GM Walk Jocketty told reporters Oct. 22 he had not spoken to any teams about Phillips and that Phillips had asked him about his status with the club.
