Report: Tim Wallach talks 'escalating'

There's a new top candidate for the Tigers managerial job, and he's got a very familiar resume.

He's a long-time major-league third baseman, he was born in the 1950s, he's never managed in the majors but has minor-league experience and he's worked with Dave Dombrowski. He's currently working as a third-base coach for a team that just lost in the LCS.

And he's not Tom Brookens.

According to Jonah Keri of ESPN, talks are "escalating" around the candidacy of Dodgers' third-base coach Tim Wallach. Wallach played in the majors from 1980-96, overlapping with Dombrowski in Montreal, and has worked as a hitting coach and minor-league manager for Los Angeles.

He was one of the candidates for the Dodgers job after the 2010 season, but lost out to Don Mattingly. Wallach has served as Mattingly's third-base coach for the past three seasons, and was considered a top candidate to take over the team had Mattingly left over his contract issues.
