Report: Thunder frontrunner for Pau Gasol
Apparently there is some traction to Pau Gasol joining the Thunder.
ESPN's Ramona Shelbourne is reporting the Thunder are the front runner to sign the Laker forward, who has opted for free agency.
Gasol would immediately make Oklahoma City's front line one of the best in basketball, and certainly the best offensively as he would join Kevin Durant and Serge Ibaka.
Gasol is 33 and made $19 million last season. He would certainly have to take a pay cut to join the Thunder, but OKC could offer the $5.3 million mid-level exception to him, but can only offer him $3 million in the first year of any deal.
The Thunder already have a crowded front court. Kendrick Perkins, Steven Adams and now Mitch McGary signed for next season. All are guaranteed contracts. Hasheem Thabeet is not guaranteed for next season.
Gasol is also reportedly interested in Chicago and Golden State.
OKC, according to ESPN.com, has also continued to reach out to Memphis guard Mike Miller. Miller and the Thunder talked last year during the offseason, but the veteran decided to sign with the Grizzlies after winning the title with the Miami Heat.
