Redskins make smart move with FedEx Field turf

It only took two major knee injuries in one game before the Redskins got the message. The franchise has reportedly fixed a drainage problem underneath the playing surface and plans to re-sod the entire field in June, according to a report by ESPN 980 in Washington D.C. FedEx Field had come under quite a bit of scrutiny after last season's NFC wild-card game, when Seattle's Chris Clemons (torn ACL) and Washington star Robert Griffin III suffered severe knee injury on what looked to be a moth-eaten turf. However, the team is assuring us that they're taking the proper steps to avoid such mishaps in the future. One major way the Redskins will do this is by complete re-sodding the middle of the playing field after their game against the Chargers on Nov. 3. According to the ESPN 980 report, that includes "areas from the 'bottom of the numbers' on each side of the field spanning the entire length of the field from end zone to end zone."
