Reds' Phillips begins post-surgery workouts
With the Reds struggling on both offense and defense during a six-game losing streak, any good news is certainly welcome this week.
Brandon Phillips is a man who could help them in both areas, and though he is still far away from returning from a thumb injury, the social-media-savvy star offered some encouraging images on Instagram on Wednesday.
The brief video comes two days after Reds manager Bryan Price told reporters in Milwaukee (via Mark Sheldon of MLB.com) his Gold Glove second baseman had begun working out back in Cincinnati less than two weeks after having surgery July 11 to repair a torn ligament in his left (catching) hand.
"He's able to do some movement with his hand a lot more comfortably," Price said. "It's still on schedule but still a ways away."
At the time of his surgery, Phillips' recovery was expected to cause him to miss about six weeks.
