Reds' Pena scratched from lineup
Reds catcher/first baseman Brayan Pena was scratched fro the starting lineup Thursday with an illness.
The club announced the move shortly before Cincinnati played host to the Cardinals for the conclusion of a four-game series.
Originally, Pena was in the lineup catching and batting sixth. Devin Mesoraco replaced him behind the plate while manager Bryan Price reshuffled the batting order. Price put Mesoraco in the cleanup spot while right fielder Jay Bruce moved down from fourth to sixth.
Pena is batting .262 in 106 games this season with a .303 on-base percentage and .367 slugging percentage. All three numbers are slightly above his career averages, and his versatility has proven key for a team beset by injuries at first base and catcher.
