The Reds Thursday selected from Class AAA Louisville the contract of IF Kristopher Negron (#17), optioned to Louisville RHP Carlos Contreras and designated for assignment RHP Brett Marshall.
Negron, a non-roster invitee to spring training, was reassigned to Louisville the day before Opening Day and has spent the season with the Bats (75g, .269, 15 2b, 3 3b, 3hr, 25rbi, 9sb, 5g at 2b, 3g at 3B, 46g at SS, 26 in OF)...he made all 4 of his Major League apps in 2012.
Marshall was claimed off waivers from the Cubs 2 days before pitchers and catchers reported to spring training...in his last appearance of the spring he suffered a strained tendon in his right middle finger and began the season on the Reds' 60-day disabled list...on 6/20 he was reinstated from the disabled list and was optioned to Louisville (7gs, 0-5, 10.97, 21.1ip, 29h, 29r, 26er, 27bb, 14k, 3hr, .330oba).
