The Thunder have a less-than-slim chance at getting the No. 1 pick in this summer's NBA draft and we'll find out exactly where Oklahoma City will pick at Tuesday's lottery reveal.
The Thunder will either get a top-three pick or the No. 14 selection. No other selections are possible. The league will reveal No. 14 first, so we'll know right away if it's time to get excited about the Thunder's pick.
There is a 0.5 percent chance OKC gets the first pick, a 0.59 percent chance of getting the second pick and a 0.73 percent chance shot of the No. 3 pick.
Bad news: There is a 98.18 percent chance of getting the No. 14 pick.
What? You don't get excited by watching ping-pong balls. OK, fair enough. Here are two things to get excited for Tuesday night.
1. Russell Westbrook
Each of the lottery teams brings a representative to sit in during the presentation. The Thunder are being repped by Westbrook. That means ... well, who knows what that means. The Thunder may not, and probably won't get the top pick, but Westbrook is definitely going to be best dressed. Hard to say what he's going to wear, but combine Westbrook and New York, and you can count on a fashion emergency in the house.
On the court, we sometimes get "Good Russ," the one who can take games over, win on pure emotion and fire his team to victory with the intensity of 1,000 suns. Maybe that Russ will help the Thunder get a favorable selection. "Good Russ" gets the Thunder a top-three pick.
Of course, "Bad Russ," means silly turnovers horrible decisions and ill-timed technicals. "Bad Russ" also could mean the No. 14 pick overall.
Certainly things would be a lot better for OKC if the Thunder can get one of those top picks, but wouldn't it be kind of cool if Westbrook treated the picks show like he does referees or the media (from time to time). A snarl here or a scowl there would sure make for some good TV.
2. Conspiracy talk
If you live in your mom's basement, think the moon landing was staged and have actually frozen an envelope, well, this night is for you.
Conspiracy theories will be rampant Tuesday night as the Knicks and the Lakers are in the mix for the top pick. New York has a 19.9 percent chance of getting the selection. The Lakers have an 11.9 percent chance. Minnesota has the best chance at No. 1 at 25 percent.
The biggest conspiracy going is the NBA is fixed, so that means the Knicks or the Lakers, two of the most-popular teams in the league, will get lucky, ala the "Frozen Envelope" that landed the Knicks Patrick Ewing. You know, the league has to have New York or the Lakers play well or it's just not as good.
The good news in all the conspiracy talk is there won't be any mention of Tom Brady, PSI or the Wells Report unless the ping-pong balls aren't properly inflated.
