Rays pick 'preppie' theme for road trip to Houston
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays have gone preppie. Well, sort of.
The latest themed road trip for manager Joe Maddon’s team is titled, “Accidental Preppie,” which certainly fits his clubhouse’s anti-dress code culture. The Rays left Sunday for a four-game series against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park dressed to impress … in an unintentional way.
Does the theme fit the location? Maddon thinks so. Let him explain.
“Houston has got a preppie culture a little bit,” he said. “I’m really hoping for things that just don’t match. … On top of just the actual flights, I’m encouraging wearing shorts to and from the ballpark. It could be warm there. Again, we have the anti-dress code around here. Just wear your shorts, be comfortable.”
