The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired left-handed reliever Jeff Beliveau from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations, the team announced Tuesday.

He was added to the 40-man roster and optioned to Triple-A Durham. To make space for the move, injured reliever Jeff Niemann (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

Prior to being claimed off waivers by Texas on Dec. 21, 2012, Beliveau had spent his professional career with the Chicago Cubs.

He played in the majors for the first time in 2012, going 1-0 with a 4.58 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched over 22 appearances. He has a 21-14 mark with a 2.84 ERA over six minor-league seasons.
