Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Alex Cobb left a rehab start Tuesday night in Port Charlotte, Fla., early because of a blister on his right index finger.
Cobb, pitching for the Class A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs, threw two pitches against the Dunedin Blue Jays, a Toronto Blue Jays affiliate, before leaving the mound at Charlotte Sports Park as a precaution.
Cobb told reporters that the blister developed in a bullpen session about two or three days ago. However, he had hoped to make it through four innings. He called the incident "minor," though he is unsure whether he will be able to make another rehab start this weekend or early next week.
The appearance was his first rehab start since being placed on the disabled list June 16, a day after he sustained a mild concussion when a line drive off the bat of the Kansas City Royals' Eric Hosmer struck him on the right ear at Tropicana Field.
Cobb, 25, is 6-2 with a 3.01 ERA in 13 starts this season.
