Rangers still looking for bat, bullpen help
ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas Rangers don't plan on being sellers at this point in the season despite not being at .500 as the All-Star break looms.
Texas manager Jon Daniels wants to add a bat and some bullpen help to his club in the next three weeks.
"What I've told clubs on a short-term basis is I'd still like to help our bullpen a little bit and the right complimentary right-hand bat," Daniels said. "That's kind of 2015 short term. Longer term, bigger picture, kind of almost combing more offseason mentality to it more than just a platoon bat we're going to have to address or really consider the balance of our lineup, left and right."
Daniels said the club is always in the market for controllable starters.
Daniels said the balance inequality extends into the minors where the Rangers are left-handed heavy with prospects like Joey Gallo and Nomar Mazara.
The Rangers can't be in sell mode because like every other team in the American League they still have a chance at the postseason.
"Welcome to 2015," Daniels said. "There are 25 teams in the league that are in that category. That's where we are. We haven't played great of late but coming into today we're four back in the loss column. That's the reality."
